I had an issue getting decent WiFi coverage in part of my apartment. I had an old router lying around and I remembered hearing something about dd-wrt. I wondered if it could help, and sure enough it did. Here are the steps to turn an old router into a useful WiFi repeater:
- Download dd-wrt firmware for your router. I had an old Cisco E1000v2 so I used this binary.
- Follow the steps listed here. (Don't forget to change the IP address of your old router so that it doesn't conflict with the gateway address of your existing router!)
- Voila! You now have a wireless repeater.
